Why Do You Need To Season Your Iron Cookware?
Rome Pie Irons and cast iron cookware are not pre-seasoned. When you season your pie iron it not only helps prevent oxidation, but helps food from sticking to the iron. We add a light coating of paraffin wax on the iron to protect it from rusting while on the store shelf and in transit. After buying your pie iron you'll want to remove the paraffin wax by melting it off or scrubbing with hot water. You can then start the seasoning process with a high heat oil as one would season a cast iron skillet. We suggest using the seasoning oil blend from Lovett Sundries.
If you've already seasoned your cast iron and want to keep it in good shape and cleaned up after use, we suggest using the cast iron conditioner. We're very impressed by the both the results and ease of use.
