Combo pack of our Japanese Tawashi Cast Iron Scrubbing Brush and Cast Iron / Pie Iron Seasoning Oil (available in 8 oz or 12 oz jar.)

Save when you buy them as a set

This oil is designed for seasoning cast iron cookware and does a great job in getting Rome Pie Irons ready to use.

Made from a blend of flax seed oil, coconut oil and castor oil. Just 3 simple ingredients that are carefully mixed in Pittsburgh, PA by the fine folks at Lovett Sundries. We love their work and are sure you'll find the quality of their products to be top notch.

The perfect scrubbing tool for pie irons and cast iron cookware is a traditional Japanese Tawashi brush. Made from natural palm fibers that are tightly wound together to form a strong yet gentle brush that removes stuck on food particles without taking affecting your seasoned iron. Made by the Kamenoko company of Japan. A family business making them by hand since 1907.

We find that the brush does a great job in combo with the seasoning oil.

Why Do You Need To Season Your Iron Cookware?
Rome Pie Irons and cast iron cookware are not pre-seasoned. When you season your pie iron it not only helps prevent oxidation, but helps food from sticking to the iron. We add a light coating of paraffin wax on the iron to protect it from rusting while on the store shelf and in transit. After buying your pie iron you'll want to remove the paraffin wax by melting it off or scrubbing with hot water. You can then start the seasoning process with a high heat oil as one would season a cast iron skillet. We suggest using the seasoning oil blend from Lovett Sundries.

If your cast iron is already seasoned, but you want to periodically clean it up and keep it well conditioned, we also sell a Cast Iron Conditioning Oil. It's perfect at the start of the season when you want to give your iron a refreshed sheen.
